First Baptist Church of Shawnee has always taught the simple truths found in the Bible. We still do.
When talking about our beliefs as a Baptist church, many people might expect to hear something particularly Baptist. But really our beliefs fall in line with you would find in any theologically conservative evangelical church. Here is what that means:
Theologically conservative. When we say theologically conservative, what we mean essentially is that we affirm the truth of the Bible. It is historical information that is reliable and accurate. This is a theologically conservative approach to the Bible. You will notice this reflected in our teaching. Our teachers assume the reliability and authority of what the read in the Bible. For this reason we consider the Bible an authoritative life-guide for the believer.
Evangelical. Without getting lost in a lot of history of Christianity in the United States, let’s just say that the word evangelical refers to Protestants (non-Catholics). Beyond that the word describes a kind of Protestant who sees their mission built into the words of Scripture. We not only believe the Word of God is true, but we believe that we have a duty to communicate that life-giving truth across the globe.
