Needed Sacrifice

This week's sermon

Jesus offers Himself as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Peter thought this was an intolerable possibility (Matthew 16), but it had to be. Throughout the Old Testament, the sacrifices made were a temporary covering over of sins. In Exodus 12, blood placed on a door frame caused the death plague to "pass over." But what Christ did on the cross was a perfect and complete sacrifice, once and for all. We are not just covered over, or passed by; we are made new in Christ because of His perfect sacrifice.

About The Cross Series

There is no more central symbol of Christianity than the cross. Paul declares the cross the very core of the Gospel. How we understand the Cross of Christ changes everything about how we understand God, the world—even life itself. When we consider all that Jesus did there, we stand amazed.
