Childlike Christianity: Growing Up

Childlike Christianity: Growing Up February 15, 2009 Themes: Maturity, Faith Development, Discipleship Primary Scripture: Mk 10:13-16 Secondary Scripture: Hb 5:11-6:12 & 1Co 13:8-12 Henri Nouwen said that in order for us to grow up our roots must first grow down. We must root ourselves in childlike Christianity if we are ever to reach Christian adulthood. There is no way to jump over Childlike Christianity. I invite you today, if you would like to experience Childlike Christianity, if you would like to grow up in your faith, or if you just need time to pray to do so as we close. This alter is an open alter. It is not just for repentance, it is for prayer. It is not just for revival services, it is for any time you need reviving. If you would like someone to pray with you for anything come to this alter and I or someone else will pray with you. If you would like to experience childlike Christianity, if you would like to see that newness of Christian infancy again, come and pray. If you are sick, or confused, if you need help, or guidance. This is where you can start to receive the food you need. How deep are your roots? Before we grow up we must grow down and learn from Childlike Christianity.

Childlike Christianity: Faith

Childlike faith is not a blind obedience whether we understand or not it is how we address the world around us. Childlike faith is not hidden where none can see how we really feel it is the openness to share with our friends and family. Childlike faith is not something we think halfheartedly but an action that we engage in with unmatched enthusiasm. If you have never made the commitment to live faithfully to God I invite you to come to the alter and do so. If you remember a time when your enthusiasm and childlike faith was real but since then it has waned come to the alter and pray that it be invigorated. If you simply want to experience childlike faith in a way you never have before pray for it. This alter is a place not only of repentance but of invigoration. Coming before it is an openness to the family of God. It is an action that shows your faith. It is a sacred place before God. If you feel the need come as we pray.
