“How can the Church change the world?”

Big Idea: I belong in God’s family and I have a responsibility to it

“"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2corinthians12/9

Four Visions For The World:

1) The Political Vision

2) The Fundamentalist Vision

3) The Liberal Vision

4) The Evangelist Vision

“Neither of these visions are all wrong… they all are simply incomplete”

What is Culture?

1) Culture is a resource, a form of power

2) Culture is produced

3) Cultural production is a hierarchy of center and peripheral

4) Culture changes from top down… not bottom up

5) Culture changes best where cultural, economic, and political resources overlap *The Billy Graham example

How does Flipside change the culture?

Flipside works for individual and corporate change of our little culture, plants churches in urban settings, and prepares our children to be Flipside lives and transform their cultures as they move into cities around the world.

In the task of changing the world, we must remember…

1) Jesus’ tomb is empty, and the Holy Spirit has come

2) Jesus promised that He would build His Church and never forsake us

3) Remember the “pax Romana”

4) The Church in Corinth

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge- even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you- so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1corinthians1/4>9

We must FIRST look to the evidence of God’s Mercy and Grace,

and have faith it will never end… then we can work to change the world!

Question: what are the evidences of God’s Grace in your life?
