"Simple Discipleship"

Big Idea:  My spiritual development must be

Purposeful, a Process, and Intentional

"Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ... For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building."  1corinthians1/1, 9

"Some of us have been given special ability as apostles; to others he has given the gift of being able to preach well; some have special ability in winning people to Christ, helping them to trust him as their Savior; still others have a gift for caring for God's people as a shepherd does his sheep, leading and teaching them in the ways of God.  Why is it that he gives us these special abilities to do certain things best? It is that God's people will be equipped to do better work for him, building up the Church, the body of Christ, to a position of strength and maturity" ephesians4/11>12tlb

"build up" = "oikodome"

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught..."  colosians2/6>7

"But each one should be careful how he builds... his work will be shown for what it is... It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.  If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.  If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames."  1corinthians3/10>15

Keep Your Growth Simple

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."  matthew11/28>30

"the Pharisees... thought up a fresh question of their own to ask him.  One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him: ‘Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?'  Jesus replied, ‘ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.'  All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."  matthew22/34>40
