When Your Dreams Get Hijacked

WHEN YOUR DREAMS GET HIGH-JACK [GENESIS 37:3-24] How many times have you been knocked down, not physically, but emotionally and spiritually? How many times have you been kicked while you were down? How many times have you been kicked by the very ones you expected kindness and love? Joseph could understand your situation. I. THE INFERNO OF JEALOUS A. Get rid of all bitterness. [Ephesians 4:31] B. Jealous of a relationship. [Genesis 37:3-4] C. Jealous of his position. [Genesis 37:3] D. Jealous of God’s favor. [Genesis 37:5-11] II. THE INFERNO OF BITTERNESS A. Joseph visits his brothers. B. Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery. C. Joseph’s brothers recall their evil act. What lessons can we learn from this story? First, bitterness is really anger at God. Second, bitterness is a denial of the goodness of God. [Romans 8:28] Third, bitterness leaks out, poisons others. [Hebrews 12:15] Fourth, bitterness always affects other people. Fifth, bitterness is non-discriminating with its targets. God provides instruction on how to overcome bitterness. [Ephesians 4:26-27; Romans 12:9-21; Philippians 2:3-8]

IS THERE A CURE FOR OUR LAND? [JEREMIAH 8:19-22; II CHRONICLES 7:14] We live in a day and time when the majority of the news is negative. Growing a Family

GROWING A FAMILY [MATTHEW 9:35-38] If we are going to grow a family, physically or spiritually, we must realize that God is the builder. Psalm 127:1 states; “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builder labor in vain….” As parents, we want to raise our children to respect others, to be honest, and to treat others as they would like to be treated. If we want to build the church, we must respect others, be honest, and treat others as we would like to be treated. How can we accomplish this? Our text provides three ways to grow a family. Our text provides the method, the motivation and the means. I. THE METHOD A. The method of building a spiritual family is preaching and teaching. [Matthew 9:35] B. A method for our madness. C. Jesus taught, preached, and healed. [I Peter 3:15] D. Where are you preaching? E. Our world is filled with healing people. [Matthew 10:7] II. THE MOTIVATION A. Our motivation is compassion. B. Example of tow psychiatrist. C. Are we really listening? [Matthew 9:36] D. Example of store clerk. E. Example of preacher A. J. Gordon III. THE MEANS A. Our means is making disciples [Matthew 9:37-38] B. Word of mouth advertisement. C. Example of sharing the best means. D. Are you talking about Christ’s Church of New Beginnings? [Matthew 9:37-38] Will we do our part to help Christ’s Church of New Beginnings grow? Growth will occur if the body is healthy. Are we willing to pay the price necessary to make Christ’s Church of New Beginnings grow?

Can You Pass the Test of Faith?

CAN YOU PASS THE TEST OF FAITH? [HEBREWS 11:39-12:2 ] When life comes to the end of our earthly existence, will there be words unspoken? If our lives ended this very minute, could we “Pass the Test of Faith?” Paul provided some profound words in II Timothy 4:6-8 as his life ended. Paul paints life as a race or fight. The question is, “How are We Running the Race?” How are we “Fighting the Fight?” The Hebrew writer in Hebrews 10:32-33 seems to indicate that he felt his readers had stopped running and stopped fighting. He encouraged them to get rid of the things hindering their fight or race. I. EXPLORE THE EVIDENCE [Hebrews 11:39] A. Look at the evidence of the faithful. B. Endured under every imaginable circumstance. C. The evidence shows their shortcomings and their faithfulness. D. The race does not depend upon us alone. II. EXAMINE THE EXAMPLE A. Jesus provides the perfect example. [Hebrews 12:2; John 13:15] B. Jesus illustrates self-sacrifice. [Romans 5:6-8] C. Jesus sacrificed for everyone. [Luke 14:33; Matthew 16:24] C. We must follow the example of Jesus. III. EXPERIENCE THE ENJOYMENT A. How do we endure the persecution? [Hebrews 12:2] B. How can we experience the enjoyment? [Hebrews 10:34-36] C. Picture running a marathon. [Matthew 25:21] When we explore the evidence of the faithful, that have gone on before us, when we evaluate the example of Jesus, and we understand that the faithful will experience the enjoyment of heaven for eternity, we will not only run the race, we will finish the race, we will fight the good fight of faith
