Christ's Church of New Beginnings

The Road to Bethlehem - Nazareth

The early church was not held fondly by its neighbors. Many thought the Christians were atheists and cannibals, since they didn’t worship the gods of Rome and talked about eating and drinking flesh and blood. It is only recently that the Campbellite Churches, of which we are, have received a measure of reputation because when we were conceived 200 years ago, we were considered heretics for not baptizing our babies like everyone else, or for making baptism a necessary part of salvation. Many other churches still refuse to see how baptism saves anyone. We forget that respectability for the church in the world is a sacrifice of faithfulness to God because the world fundamentally hates what the church stands for, and the prince of the world hates the church.
