Why We Believe What We Believe About the Bible
The purpose of this message is to reacquaint us with the fundamentals of our faith. For some of us this is an important review. For others who are new to our church, you’re finding out exactly where we stand so you can make an informed choice about your attendance and involvement.

Help Me, I'm Angry
Everybody it seems, is, angry these days. You turn on the cable news shows and instead of getting your fix of news, you get loud opinions, angry shouting, and harsh words. You drive down the road and instead of peacefully enjoying the scenery, you’re subjected to honking, flipping, cutting off. Some go home and instead of finding their castle to be a place of refuge, it’s a place of anger, shouting, threats. One thing that may surprise you is that the Bible doesn’t call anger a sin. In fact, anger is a natural, normal, God-given human emotion. It is uncontrolled anger that is a sin.

Why Doctrine is Important
I begin a new, 10-week preaching series, entitled “Why We Believe What We Believe.” I believe Christians today at all levels need to be schooled in the basics. If you believe the mountains of church research done in the last few years by George Barna, Lifeway Research and others, you know that Christians have lost touch with the basics of faith. Pastors can no longer assume that Christians in their congregations are either a) fully aware b) believe or c) understand the fundamentals of their faith. Let me share with you some troubling findings.

The Blessings of Blindness
As we open our Scriptures to John 9, we find one of the most beautiful stories in all of the Scriptures. This miracle is the fourth record of Jesus healing blindness in the Scriptures. It is obvious that he healed more than four, but only four are recorded. We know that healing the blind was a fulfillment of prophecy: To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isaiah 42:7 (KJV)

Losing Someone You Love
...I have talked to parents who have lost their children and they say there is no greater grief, because you’re not supposed to bury your children. They are supposed to bury you.

Who is Your Father?
As we open again to the gospel of John, chapter 8, we see the pride that the Jewish people had in their ancestry. When confronted about their sin and need for a Savior, they continually fell back on the idea that they were “children of Abraham.” The confrontation we find between Jesus and the unbelieving Jewish religious leaders reached this point of hostility back in John 5, when Jesus had the audacity to heal a lame man, crippled for 38 years, on the Sabbath.

The Pathway to Freedom
As Christians, we don’t believe truth is relative. Neither do we believe truth is a set of facts or principles. We don’t believe it’s an abstract idea. No, we believe truth is more than facts, more than principles. Truth is a personified in the very character of God: He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4 (KJV)
