Stones of Grace
We often hear the phrase, “He that is without sin cast the first stone.” Another way of saying this is “He who lives in a glass house shouldn’t throw rocks.” Almost everyone knows that saying. Even people who’ve never read the Bible. It’s usually used as a defense against a particularly sinful lifestyle. I think we’d all agree its been used and abused. But it is a saying that is in the Bible. Or is it?

Why Bitterness Bites and Forgiveness is Sweet
Tonight, we’re going to talk about forgiveness. Perhaps nothing God asks us to do is harder than forgiving that person who has wronged us deeply. And we’re not going to talk about little silly flaws, like the guy in traffic who cuts you off or the McDonalds server who is rude. Those are little slights that pass in a fleeting moment. No, tonight we’re going to talk about those deep hurts. Those painful blows we take from people we least expect, from people we love and cherish and trust.

The Greatest Words Ever Spoken
Well today we’re going to look at the impact of some unforgettable words. In fact, they may be the most important words ever spoken by any man in history. Jesus’ words, shouted out at the last day of Feast of Tabernacles, when all of Israel was in deep remembrance of their own history and God’s provision of water in the wilderness, were words of power, because they were not ordinary words. They were the very words of God. If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. John 7:37 (KJV)

God is Not a Magic Pill
You hear a great sermon on a very tough area of your life, something you struggle with such as forgiveness or finances or raising children or finding joy in trials. You leave church all inspired to change or do better. But then you go home and reality sets in. Life ends up being much harder than it should be. And you begin to wonder to yourself. I’m a Christian, but what am I having so much trouble?

Come Thirsty
To know and understand the greatest message, you and I must ask ourselves an even deeper question. What is mankind’s greatest need? In other words, if you had an audience of the entire world listening or watching and you had the forum to say whatever you wanted and know people were truly listening, what message would you give, that you’d want people to know and understand?

Give Jesus a Try
Well, today I invite you to travel back to the time of Jesus. You see, the questions raised by the Jesus Seminar are not new questions. In fact, they are some of the oldest questions around. As we open the Scriptures—and I invite you to turn in your copy of the Scriptures to John 7—we’ll see that the people of Jesus day wrestled with the very nature of who Jesus was. But it’s not just enough to wrestle. The central theme of this passage is that in order to have your questions truly answered, you have to examine your preconceived motivations and biases and truly desire to know God and to know the truth.

Who is in Your Ear?
.....Jesus' mission was what? “To seek and save the lost.” And so he didn’t minister in Jerusalem and Judea because he wanted to go where people might listen to his word—there was more productive ministry elsewhere. There’s a small lesson here to us as believers. Sometimes there is ground too hard to plant seeds. Sometimes there are people too stubborn to hear the message. Go where the message wants to be heard.

Overcoming Fear of the Future
When you think about fear of the future, it all boils down to one common word: worry. Worry is something we all struggle with. Its kind of like dieting and food. We talk about wanting less of it, but don’t seem to know how to get rid of it.

Embrace Your Father
I wrestled with what to preach on Father’s Day for a few reasons. First of all, for some, Father’s day brings fresh memories of the loss of a father. You remember those precious times together that you’ll not share anymore this side of Heaven. For others, who have had an estranged relationship with your father, Father’s brings up a flood of confusing images. We also have fathers of all ages in here. I could gin up a challenging message on the need for fatherhood in America, but there are few young fathers in here besides myself who would be challenged. And it’s a tough sell, considering that I probably need the biggest challenge myself.

When God Does a Great Work and How to be Part of it
God’s work always begins with a problem. I see the broken down walls of people’s hearts. I see them destroyed by the ravages of sin. I see people enslaved to addictions, to greed. I see relationships broken and in need of repair. I see thousands of people in our community who do not know Jesus Christ. That is not just a temporary problem. It’s an eternal problem.
