Who is This Christ – Part 3  The Word Made Flesh 7-20-08
John 1:14-18

1. The Word, logos became flesh
a. He wasn’t “created” or “made” but he added humanity to his deity.
b. He was fully God and perfect man. (Colossians 2:9)
c. It didn’t diminish God’s deity to become man.
d. He veiled some of his attributes as God, but didn’t give them up to become man. (Philippians 2:6-7)
2. Jesus is not and was not the “cosmic buddy” that many say He is.
a. When John saw Jesus in His glory in Revelation, He fell on his face.
3. Jesus was the perfect God-man
a. He didn’t sin.
b. He couldn’t sin.
4. He had to be a God and Man to be our Savior: (1 Timothy 3:16)
a. He had to be God to be free from Sin.
b. He had to be man to die. God cannot die.
5. The word, “dwelt” means “tabernacled” or “tented”
6. Jesus had the perfect balance, grace and truth.
a. Grace was never divorced from truth, grace is built upon truth.
b. The truth of our wickedness and our sin before God makes the grace of God bigger
7. Grace for Grace – “grace heaped upon grace.”
8. The law was incomplete—it only showed us our need for a Savior
9. “only begotten” means Jesus is a unique and only Son of God.
10. No one has ever seen God. Jesus is the expression or the revelation of God to man.
11. Three Takeaways:
a. You can’t see God anymore by going to the mountains or joining a monastery. God is not closer there than he is right here. Know Jesus and You Know God.
b. Worship of any deity except Christ is wrong, Jesus Christ is the only, the unique expression of God.
