Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 46

Jesus makes three very bold declarations concerning his mission while on earth. He states the following: 1. I have come to judge. 2. I have come to suffer. 3. I Have come to divide For the most part, these things do not fit within the frame of the portrait that many people paint of Jesus. And yet, to paint a portrait of Christ without these three things paints an incomplete and even a heretical picture of God’s Son.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 44

There will be no time to prepare for the Lord’s coming except for today. No one knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return. Our command is to be always ready…always prepared…always on guard. As there are things we must do to be physically fit and growing in strength there are things we must be doing to grow intellectually and spiritually. The scriptures are very plain in their instruction that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Not only does faith come by hearing the word of God, but so does understanding Him come about by reading the word of God.

Originally there was the Torah. This was what God gave to Moses. According to Orthodox Jewish belief, the Written Law that Moses received from the Lord is only part of God’s revelation. Another Law was revealed as well, and handed down orally through generations. At some point a rabbi thought that it would be a good idea to write down the oral law so that it could be preserved for generations to come. This written version of the Oral Law is called the Mishnah. The Mishnah contains what Jesus calls the heavy or the hard burdens or opinions that the teachers added on to the Talmud. Over the years other teachers wrote commentaries on the Mishnah which as you now know was the written account of the Oral Law (The Talmud). The Torah was about 530 pages long, while the Mishnah is 36 VOLUMES in length. Many of the controversies between the Pharisees and Jesus that are recorded in the Scripture have to do with their differing interpretations of the place and purpose of the Oral Law.

Satan deceives and distracts and convinces people that they have no need for a savior because they haven’t done anything to deserve hell. And he does that through false religions. He convinces them that the Bible is just a book of fables or moral lessons or he convinces them that it is within their own power to gain access into heaven.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 40

The existence and welfare of the human race is dependent upon light. Although we may not consciously appreciate and thank God for light in general, when it is lacking for an extended period of time we certainly feel the effects of the darkness. It is more difficult to exist within darkness. It takes more effort, it takes more time, it takes more concentration, and everything is “slower” in darkness; we lose our moorings.
