Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 60

There is but one way to understand the Holy Scriptures, and that is by way of the Holy Spirit interpreting them for us. Prior to salvation we can read and understand the words and yet the meaning of those words are lost upon us. The words of a Holy God are simply too “big” to fit into our ears and too “deep and thick” in meaning to be absorbed by a brain that is already predisposed to reject him.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 59

Jesus says there are only two masters from which to choose on earth: money or Him. The parable of the rich man reinforces the previous parable of the dishonest manager and the emphasis Jesus placed upon the improper use of worldly resources. We can view this next parable as the galvanizing of the essence of the previous parable. The Pharisees are the rich man, Lazarus is the faithful, and Abraham represents God.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 58

The parables were designed for Believers. They were not stories that Jesus created because the general public was unable to understand the meaning of Jesus’s words during the first two years of his earthly ministry. In other words it was not out of desperation that Jesus resorted to this type of teaching. On the contrary, Jesus was now teaching at a different level for the sake of “winnowing” the wheat from the chaff. The early teachings of Jesus were geared toward an inclusive audience while the parables were aimed at an exclusive audience

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 57

This is the third message on the Parable of the Prodigal Son. • The youngest son represents the “lost’ who repents of his sins and receives Christ. • The father represents Jesus who takes upon himself the guilt and shame of those he saves. • The oldest son represents the Pharisees to whom Christ is speaking.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 56

The world is filled with families who are broken and hurting. The world is full of single parent families who are struggling in almost every aspect of life; finances, relationships, raising their children, trying to make decisions that can make them feel very alone and vulnerable. There are families who have remained together but are no less challenged with raising children who have strayed from the family or their faith. Regardless of the circumstances, as a parent, there are always plenty of opportunities for anxiety and concern. Some have yet to have the privilege of being in a marriage and/or with children. And that carries its own set of anxieties and concerns. Regardless of our age, marital status, with our without children, God’s desire is to bring all of us to a place where we realize that what we thought would make us whole and happy without him, can only be realized within him. AND how we live our lives on our journey to repentance and especially our journey following our repentance, matters.
