Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 19

Did you know that God is an artist? When he paints it is perfection. He combines the perfect colors with the perfect brush and applies the perfect pressure upon His canvass, the universe. When he composes, it is an emotional wave of perfectly matched notes, lyrics, and instrumentation that demands an emotional response from the heart. And when he writes, the words are perfect, the meter is perfect and His message is uncomfortably clear. And unlike other artists his art is 100% truth (it is not merely a reflection of truth–it is truth) and that is empowered with the ability to save the soul.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 18

Our excitement and desire to give God credit and glory for the wonderful things he does in our lives can sometimes be heralded as miracles when in reality, these events are evidence of His tremendous grace, mercy and power. The truth is, in our effort to give God glory in all things that are good (which is noble), we may be lowering the bar that the Bible establishes for true miracles to the point that Godly miracles are unintentionally diminished in the process. Jesus was very careful concerning the miracles He performed. Not only was He careful, but at times He began to limit His miracles because they were beginning to be a distraction from His message, which was the Gospel. The miracle of redemption occurred when the perfect Son of God laid down His life for you and me over 2000 years ago.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 17

We continue with Christ’s teaching of “The Beatitudes.” So the question is, what was Christ trying to accomplish? Whether He was speaking strictly to the disciples or the entire gathering, what did the people who were there hear? Remember, the crowd (according to the scriptures) was comprised of three groups. They were there: 1. To hear him teach, 2. To be healed, 3. To be rid of unclean spirits. This was not necessarily the social elite who were gathered. They were curious and needy and hopeful. And yet Christ chose not to speak only to their needs, but rather to their hearts or souls as well. He took the focus from their physical, social, and perhaps emotional vulnerabilities or inadequacies and addressed their unrecognized spiritual needs.

Where does the Law end and Grace begin? Following our salvation the value of the law is expressed in the following ways. 1. The law separates our Living God from all other gods in that it defines God’s character. 2. The law helps us understand how to bless and please God which is through receiving Christ as his Son and our Redeemer and being obedient as proof of our love for him. 3. The law helps us understand that God’s standard is unattainable on our own and therefore we are grateful for Jesus who came, died, and rose again out of obedience to His Father and for our sake. 4. The law helps us understand that we needed to be rescued and we owe ALL to Jesus Christ who became our sin so that we might become His righteousness. 5. The law points us to Jesus Christ who is our Redeemer.

Should the Sabbath be important to Christians? God created Adam and built within them a need to rest IN GOD on the seventh day. We need physical rest. We need emotional rest. We need to rest from toil. We need spiritual rest. In addition to the benefits of rest found in the scriptures, medical science agrees that proper rest is necessary for ones physical and emotional health. Rest is essential for the body to be able to concentrate on areas that need healing.
