Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 31

Jesus gives a warning to three different types of people concerning their eternal destiny. This warning confronts them with a choice they must make, or a hurdle they must overcome in order to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 69

Sometimes the Bible is taught as if God’s story took place in a vacuum when it comes to world history. We read about Moses, Jeremiah, Samson, King David, and Herod as if those events took place in a parallel universe and had no affect on the world at large. The opposite is true. God’s story is not only larger than the world stage, but God’s story is larger than the universe. Actually, Planet Earth as we know it, if not for involving his most beloved creation (you and me), would be but a speck of dust in the vast Solar System in which He created and in which we live. The children of God are not exempt from consequences brought about by the evil in this world. After all, we started the evil in this world.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 58

The parables were designed for Believers. They were not stories that Jesus created because the general public was unable to understand the meaning of Jesus’s words during the first two years of his earthly ministry. In other words it was not out of desperation that Jesus resorted to this type of teaching. On the contrary, Jesus was now teaching at a different level for the sake of “winnowing” the wheat from the chaff. The early teachings of Jesus were geared toward an inclusive audience while the parables were aimed at an exclusive audience

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 57

This is the third message on the Parable of the Prodigal Son. • The youngest son represents the “lost’ who repents of his sins and receives Christ. • The father represents Jesus who takes upon himself the guilt and shame of those he saves. • The oldest son represents the Pharisees to whom Christ is speaking.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 49

This morning we are going to read about a miracle. The account of this miracle is, in one way, kind of unique. It is unique in that the person who received this miracle is not on record of asking for the miracle. And yet, Jesus saw a need and met it in a miraculous way. Throughout the New Covenant we have seen Jesus miraculously intervene in the lives of people for one primary purpose–to identify himself with God the Father and solidify his true identity as Messiah. This is why there were times when Jesus refused to perform miracles. He refused to perform miracles if they would be interpreted as magic tricks or for the glory of anyone (or anything) other than his Father.
