Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 33

The world in which we are to witness is volatile to the Gospel of Jesus. We are not to sell the Gospel nor are we to make the Gospel unavailable to some while gifting it to others. We are to go to all the nations and prepare them for the return of Jesus Christ. We proclaim His message and if a son of peace hears his Gospel he will respond and the peace of Christ will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to us. We will have the peace that being obedient brings to us. But, if one comes to Christ we are to have fellowship with them.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 66

In the previous parable Jesus used a Tax-Collector as an example of someone the Pharisees would have considered to be unworthy. Here he is championing the cause of the innocent–the children–the babies. He was removing all hope that anyone could enter heaven based upon their own works or level of righteousness. The Jewish culture was built upon the law. Jesus’ teachings were based upon the law. The law was still in affect as a means to achieve righteousness and point to Jesus who would ultimately fulfill the law on our behalf.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 65

Within the church it is common to compare our spiritual walk to other Believers’ walks for the sake of feeling a little better about ourselves. The Pharisees (not known to be a humble group) were not merely claiming superiority on the level of education, privilege, and power, they were claiming superiority concerning their righteousness; not just their level of righteousness–but claiming that they were RIGHTEOUS! How did they make their case for being righteous? How did they elevate themselves above the common Jew? They did this by establishing laws that were beyond the ability of the common person to obey. As a matter of fact, the laws were so ridiculous that no one could obey all of them. The difference was that the common person was under the authority of the laws and were prosecuted for breaking them. The Pharisees broke them and lied about it.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 55

One of the most familiar parables of Jesus is the Parable of the Prodigal Son. This young man (the son) has been captured and held hostage by the allure of sin. He has being held hostage in his mind, in his spirit, and his body. Through the work of the Holy Spirit we must come to the place where we can acknowledge that God is who he says he is. Then we must be able to see the sin in our own lives. At which point we must be willing to turn and confess those sins to God.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 53

The people who encountered Christ struggled to be able to identify his purpose or mission. And the truth is, most of them, had they been able to grasp the scope of his mission, would have been disappointed. Not so much in the ultimate result of his mission, but in the cost his mission would demand of anyone who chose to follow him. We must remember that most of his audience was looking for a political deliverer, just like they were when they were enslaved in Egypt. And, God gave them Moses. But Jesus came to deliver them from, not from Rome, not from their sin… not even from themselves! Jesus came to deliver them from the wrath of God!
