Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 68

Many of us will remember the song "Zacchaeus Was a Wee Little Man" when we attending Sunday School as children. Zacchaeus lived in Jericho; he was small in stature; and he was rich. he was the Chief Tax Collector. Who we are affects what we think, what we think affects what we do, and what we do affects who we think we are. Zacchaeus’ response to meeting Jesus was to make restitution for his sins. He was no longer the same person and this inner change was affecting his view of life and his values. This was proof that his conversion was genuine.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 64

Jesus moves on with another parable. In a nutshell this parable is about two judges, a widow, and the return of Christ. This parable is about the second coming of Christ! Jesus is continuing His prophecy concerning His return.

Preparing the Way for jesus, Part 63

Jesus is asked the following question, “When is the kingdom of God going to come?” Jesus is saying that the kingdom of God is about much more than things seen such as: land, power, riches, politics and freedom. The riches of His kingdom are not dependent upon your circumstances (good our bad) whether they be financial, or love or love lost, deep meaningful relationships or utter loneliness. When Christ returns, it will be unmistakable. The sky will light up like lightning going from east to west in milliseconds. Humanity will be dumbfounded and spiritually asleep just they have always been. They will be carrying on with that which seems so important at the time. They will be feasting and drinking and making investments, and selling, and upgrading, and going to church…but it will all end. And for most of the people it will end very badly.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 62

There are many lessons we could draw from our study this morning, but I want to leave you with four of them. 1. We can confess our sins, but if our confession does not lead to repentance, our confession is not genuine. 2. We can repent of our sins (walk away from them) but if our repentance does not lead us to faith in Christ, our repentance is not genuine. 3. We can discover and exercise faith, but if our faith does not lead us to worship Christ, our faith is not genuine. 4. If we have no or little desire to worship God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, we must reevaluate our faith experience.

Preparing the Way for Jesus, Part 61

In this parable Jesus is addressing something far larger than disgruntled servants or, in our case perhaps, grumpy employees. Jesus is talking about that which is at the core of the problem. The core of the problem is that servants, who know what is expected of them, have no grounds for being disappointed if they are not praised for doing exactly what they are told to do. In other words, if they are fulfilling only their duties for which they are responsible, then they are doing the least possible in return for what they need to survive (clothing, shelter, food, etc.). In addition to everything else. not only must this servant come in from working in the fields, and not only must they “prepare” supper for their master, which is quite different than pulling a Swanson frozen dinner from the freezer and popping it in the microwave, they must dress properly.
