Biblical Repentance 2 - Appealing to the Mercy and Love of God

The recorder being forgotten this week, only the text of the message is available online. This morning from Psalm 51:1 I want you to see that in true biblical repentance we appeal to two very important attributes of God. 1. In Biblical repentance we appeal to God’s mercy. 2. In Biblical repentance we appeal to God’s steadfast love.

Biblical Repentance

This morning I want to lay out an introduction to Psalm 51. I want to provide you the background for this Psalm so that we all understand exactly where David is coming from when he pens this Psalm. Psalm 51 is a prayer of repentance. It is the heart felt, soul stirred, prayer of a guilty and broken man. And this morning I want us to get a picture of that.

Understanding Our Depravity 3

This week I want to deal with how sin has affected our will. There is a prevailing belief about the will that almost all people who call themselves Christians believe. This view says that sin has indeed entered the human race and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God but man still has the ability to respond to God and will do so if given the right message and right opportunity. What this all boils down to is the human will. Is it indeed free? ... let's find out.

Understanding Our Depravity 2

At the very center of your being, where your decisions are made and your actions are formed you and I are evil. That my friends is an ugly picture. The Lord Jesus said, “If you being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children…” This morning we deal with two of three areas that sin has affected in us which is our entire being. 1. Our bodies are depraved because of sin. 2. Sin has affected our minds.

Understanding Our Depravity

The proper biblical view of original sin teaches four things. 1. Adam passed off his sin and guilt to all of humanity. 2. In Adam we all fell and are in need of redemption. 3. We are now by nature sinners and we have the guilt of sin as well deserving eternal wrath. 4. Adam’s sin guarantees actual sin in human beings. Because of our nature we are sinners and will sin and we are guilty before God because of that. It is no excuse.

Priestly Duty of Prayer

This morning from our text and the previous texts I want you to see three specific requests that we should bring before the throne of grace on behalf of our leaders. 1. We should pray that our leaders will proclaim to us the full counsel of God. 2. We should pray that our leaders will live lives that are worthy of imitation. 3. We should pray that our leaders will keep close watch over our souls.

Three Characteristics of the Blessed Man - Psalm 1

Today I want you to see three characteristics of the blessed or happy man in contrast to the wicked. They are: 1. In contrast to the wicked the blessed man will avoid all appearances of evil. 2. In contrast to the wicked the blessed man will be grounded in God’s Word. 3. In contrast to the wicked the blessed man will prosper now and in eternity.

The Sacrifice of Membership in the Body

Hebrews 13:17 has two commands for the church member that are pleasing sacrifices to the Lord. 1. We are to obey those that have rule over us. 2. We are to submit to those who have rule over us.

A Royal Priesthood

My purpose in preaching this passage is to show you this morning what your sacred calling is as a Christian. I also want to free you from the mindset of having to sit and wonder what it is that God has called you to as a ministry. I want you to understand that every Christian has a sacred calling to minister as a New Covenant priest and God has already said what the offering is to be. I also want you to understand that these sacrifices are not additions to the sacrifice of Christ but are proof positive of the radical change in you as the sacrifice of Christ has been applied to you in salvation and made you free to serve the living God with a clear conscience. Next week we will look at our priestly duty toward the church.
