Who's In Charge
Politics and religion are the two things people aren't supposed to talk about. But Paul mixes them well in Romans 13:1-7 where he calls on Christians to recognize that living sacrifices to God must still submit to government, not just because of wrath, but because it is the right thing to do. God established all governments, and delegated authority to them. Therefore, we must honor them.

Dying to (Not) Get Even
The desire for retaliation and revenge is built in to every person because of sin. It started in the Garden of Eden, where Adam tried to get revenge against Eve by blaming her. And it escalated when Cain retaliated against Abel by murder. But God has a different plan for those who will be a living sacrifice. God says, "You be loving and let me handle the outcome."

Dying to Love
Paul's call to be a living sacrifice is not a call to some theoretical way of life. It is a call to love others in concrete ways. After talking about the use of spiritual gifts in vv. 3-8, Paul now talks about the spiritual fruit of love in vv. 9-16

Small Enough To Be A Part
Finding our part in a group of people can be a challenging task. But it is never made harder than when we have an unrealistic expectation of who we are and what we can do. The body of Christ is made up of people who are supposed to be finding their spiritual gift and serving the body with it. But far too many in the church have too high an opinion of themselves. In Romans 12:3-8, Paul talks of how the transformed life of the living sacrifice has learned to think rightly about itself and uses its gifts in service to the body.
