Time to Get Moving
0 Amens
The life of following after God is a journey with difficult times. Often, these difficult times are times that are brought on our own weakness and proneness to sin. Following a God we cannot see is difficult when we are stared down every day by things that we can see, things that cry out for our attention. It is a sad fact that the things of this world are quite often much more real to Christians than the life that we have in Jesus. As a result, we are easily distracted from following after God.
As we conclude the major portion of the story of Jacob in Genesis, we see that Jacob was side-tracked from following after God. His stay in Succoth, and then in Shechem, had brought idol worship into his house and had stopped him from returning to the place of God’s blessing.
God, in his grace and faithfulness, comes yet one more time to Jacob and calls him to return to a place of spiritual growth and renewal. For Jacob, it was time to get moving—on to the land of promise, to the place of God’s blessing.
When our own spiritual lives get stalled, we must quickly return to God through repentance and obedience. It is not enough to start tomorrow. God is calling us today, just as he did Jacob, to get moving again so that we may find the place of God’s blessing for our lives and bring honor to God in this broken and fallen world.
