Asian Gendercide - Are We Different?
The United Nations estimates that 200 million girls have been eliminated from today’s world population. There has been for the last thirty years a systematically and methodical elimination of a specific gender in the world because in certain countries one gender is preferable to the other. It has been termed “gendercide”. The reality that 200 million girls have been eliminated from this world is a vivid reminder that we live in a broken world that cannot be fixed by human hands. I cannot imagine anyone making an argument for the fact that the elimination of 200 million baby girls is morally, ethically, or socially right. However, our tendency as arrogant Americans is to think that what is happening in China or India is a result of a backwards or misguided society and that we are different; we are more advanced – we would never do something like that. Is that true?
There are approximately 1.2 million abortions in America every year. There are 1.2 million reasons and explanations and rationales behind every single decision. In the final analysis, those 1.2 million “family planning” decisions are not that different from the “family planning” decisions occurring in China and India that we call “gendercide”.
If we are going to say that it is wrong to eliminate one gender over there then it has to be wrong to eliminate both genders here. If it is wrong to be selective of who is born over there then it has to wrong to be selective of whether someone is born here. We are not that different from them. The fact is that the world that we live in here in the US is just as broken as the world of China and India.
There is only one cure for abortion. There is only one cure for gendercide. There is only one cure for this world. This world needs to be healed spiritually. This world needs a Savior.
