Here's Your Sign

Richard Dawkins, the famous Oxford zoologist and atheist has said, “Faith is the great copout, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, a lack of evidence.” This text has Jesus rejecting a request for evidence. Does Jesus prove Richard Dawkins right in this passage? Jesus is asked for a sign to show that He is the real thing and He refuses to give a sign and walks away. Is this Jesus' way of showing us that faith is taking action to believe, in spite of the lack of evidence? However, we have Jesus getting after the disciples because they do not ask for a sign. So, we have a contrast; on the one side we are encouraged to look for a signs from heaven; we are to expect the miraculous and then we have the other side where looking for signs from heaven are bad. That is what we work through .
