Text:  1 John 2:3-6

Discussion Questions

  1. Read 1 John 2:3-6 and pray, asking God to teach you through the ministry of one another.
  2. How did God work in your life through the message?  How is he trying to get your attention?
  3. Define “license,” “legalism,” and “love” with regards to obedience.   Do you err more toward license or legalism?  Explain your answer.
  4. For someone who errs toward license, what will it “look like” for them to grow into one who obeys out of love?  how about for the one who errs toward legalism?
  5. To obey God with the motivation of love will mean what for you?  What “habits” (or rather “passions”) need to be in one’s life for this to be growing?  What perspective does one need to have?
  6. Pray that our hearts will be growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and that our passions, thoughts, and actions will be set on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.  Pray for freedom from legalism.  Pray for the overcoming of license.  Pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit in these matters.
