Nehemiah 13:31b

The book of Nehemiah began with a prayer and it ends with prayer. Throughout the book we see that Nehemiah knew his calling to oversee the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem and his first response is always to pray. Knowing the covenant promises of God, he had confidence. Knowing his utter and complete dependence upon God, Nehemiah prayed. In this verse, Nehemiah asks to God to remember him with favor - asks God to acknowledge and act in such a way that is consistent with his promises. Nehemiah is seeking the approval of God. Knowing that God is pleased with us is a deep-seeded need in every human - even Nehemiah.
