We are a group of Christians from several nations, who meet in a building called “Grace Baptist Chapel”.
What's in a name?
Perhaps we could be called "Napier Road Fellowship" or "the Christian Assembly". Yet the current name is perhaps modest enough:
"Grace": this word emphasises that God has saved sinners like us because of His mercy alone, His "undeserved kindness" (which is what "grace" means).
"Baptist": this means we believe in full-immersion water baptism. We do not baptise babies, a practice we find nowhere mentioned in the Bible, but wait until a person is old enough to trust in Jesus individually. We do not put pressure on people to be baptised or to join us. We do not teach that baptism is magical. However, we believe baptism in water is a beautiful way of demonstrating that our sins have been washed away and we now follow Jesus.
"Chapel": A chapel is simply a building set aside for the worship of God. We don't call ourselves "Grace Baptist Church" because the people that meet in the chapel are the real 'church', not the bricks and mortar!
