The Sweet Taste of Gospel Transformation

The world often confuses doing “good” things and being a “good” person with being Christian. The fact is there is nothing uniquely Christian about these things. The difference is in what motivates us to do what we do that makes us uniquely Christian. John Piper says, “A capacity to taste a thing must precede a desire for its sweetness.” What does that mean for us? It means that our desire to live out the sweetness of the gospel in the world comes from a God given capacity to taste what that life is like. How does this happen? The gospel transforms us from the inside out!

Pressing on to Maturity – Faith at Work in Testing

Brethren, we do not have to fear defeat when we face trials and testing. Trials are certain to come and when we face them we can be victorious through faith in Jesus Christ as we pursue wisdom and allow the Holy Spirit to work through our circumstances turning trials into triumphs. The sanctifying process of maturing from tests to victories has a great benefit for the true believer. In this section of text, James the half-brother of Jesus, quickly impresses upon his readers’ three practical exhortations that guide them as they grow in spiritual maturity, for the Glory of God. When we reach verse twelve, we will discover the reward of enduring faith.
