Last week we kicked off our new series, Follow the Leader: Becoming Biblical Servant Leaders, by exalting Jesus to His rightful place as Chief Shepherd, Senior Pastor of Harvest Pointe Community Church. It is Jesus’ mission to make disciples of all nations that we are committed to fulfilling and his commandment to love God and love our neighbor that is our vision for this church. Because Jesus is our leader, we desire to follow Him in everything that we do and our prayer is that everything that we do brings glory to His name. In light of our mission and vision this coming year, our desire is (2009-2010 Church-Wide Goal) That every member advances in their journey as a Biblical servant leader by realizing and fulfilling God’s calling in their life in the church and community. We know from the New Testament that Jesus was a servant. He was the Great Shepherd that gave up His life for His sheep. Our hope is that this year that each one of us would follow in His example and take our next steps as servants within the church and in our community.

Just as Jesus has given us an example of servant leadership, He has given us others within the church who are to given the responsibility of leading the church as servant leaders. This week we are going to spend our time looking at the elders of the church, who are they and what is their responsibility in helping others realize and fulfill God’s calling in their life? To begin our study, we look first to Peter’s instructions to elders in 1 Peter 5:1-4.
