Questions:

  1. Real biblical change is often so misunderstood. Some people by self-help books uncritically, without reading their Bibles. Others talk about, “Well, I prayed for God to take this habit away or that habit away---or to help me grow in this area” failing to understand that they have a concrete, active role to play in their own spiritual growth. Discuss this as it relates to the steps pertaining Prioritize and Think?
  2. Are you surprised to find that Colossians 3 provides an outline for making change or pursuing growth?
  3. Read Colossians 3:1-3. What does it mean to set your mind on the things above rather than the things of earth?
  4. Read Colossians 3:5. What does it mean to put to death what is earthly in you?
  5. Read James 3:15-17. Relate these verses to Colossians 3:1-3; 3;5. And relate these verses to Matthew 5:29-30. How does all this relate to getting rid of triggers? Why is detaching and discarding people, places, and things that cause you to stumble essential to making lasting change?
  6. Discuss the steps that relate to “Eliminate” and “Replace.” How does this relate to spiritual growth and maturity? Relate these concepts to the fact that Christianity is more than a religion of rules or “Don’t do this… don’t do that.”
  7. Relate the real world application of Colossians 3 to 2 Timothy 3:16.
