We're tempted to hide our beliefs (i.e. our faith) when the majority of the world thinks of the cross as foolishness. Rather than be embarrassed or put down, we are tempted to hide our faith. But we need to accept the fact that the world's wisdom is not how God reveals Himself to people,. It is through the message of the cross, which is considered foolishness and "simple" in respect to worldly wisdom. Only through the spirit is the power of the message able to be understood. Therefore, there's no boasting before the Lord that we somehow came to know Him through our own efforts.
