“Abuse in Relationships”
Pastor Duane Cross | 05.31.09
“As followers of Christ, we need not only strengthen our families with the life-giving love of Christ, but also offer hope and healing to those impacted by the deep pain of domestic violence.”
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ABUSE?
“Next I turned my attention to all the outrageous violence that takes place on this planet—the tears of the victims, no one to comfort them; the iron grip of oppressors, no one to rescue the victims from them.” (Ecclesiastes 4:1 The Message)
“The answer's simple: Live right, speak the truth, despise exploitation, refuse bribes, reject violence, avoid evil amusements. This is how you raise your standard of living! A safe and stable way to live. A nourishing, satisfying way to live.” (Isaiah 33:15-16 The Message)
“Clean living before God and justice with our neighbors mean far more to God than religious performance. Arrogance and pride—distinguishing marks in the wicked—are just plain sin.” (Proverbs 21:3-4 The Message)
“A God-loyal person will see right through the wicked and undo the evil they've planned. If you stop your ears to the cries of the poor, your cries will go unheard, unanswered.”
(Proverbs 21:12-13 The Message)
"Speak up for the people who have no voice, for the rights of all the down-and-outers. Speak out for justice! Stand up for the poor and destitute! (Proverbs 31:8 The Message)
“I hate all your show and pretense— the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies. I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings. I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings. Away with your noisy hymns of praise! I will not listen to the music of your harps. Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living. (Amos 5:21-24 NLT)
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?
1. BE AWARE
2. BE WILLING TO BREAK THE SILENCE
3. WE WILL GET YOU THE HELP YOU NEED
4. WE WILL FIND YOU A SAFE PLACE
