Dream a New Dream About the Gospel
0 Amens
Last week in the time we spent together we talked about having our lives propelled forward by different dreams than those which may float in the world all around us. That we desire to be confronted changed by dreams led by Kingdom hopes, Kingdom aspirations and Kingdom values.
At this juncture in all of our journeys we are hoping for a strong passion for the right sort of dreams so that we don't just waste away our lives...
You will not find in this series we are doing any formulas for success, problem free living, or ways to make God happy if you just do or don't do certain things.
I am praying we would avoid many extremes as we walk together - the extreme of self-righteous legalism, which is a road towards spiritual death. Or the path of aimless, blazee Christian faith with no passion, no love for Jesus, and nothing to give your life to in his Kingdom affairs.
Why are we talking about dreams? Why now...guys I care that your life, your hopes, your very being is founded upon something solid...
The past three days I was in Minneapolis MN and I was thinking of you when a man named Ajith Fernando from Sri Lanka recounted the words of one of his friends who had fallen on hard time. "I realized that when I hit rock bottom that the bottom was solid"
I pray that my joy, my hopes, my life is built on what is not flimsy and weak...but our lives - in their many ups and downs will be lived from a bottom that is solid - even built upon a rock. From here, from a foundation, one's life can hope and dream.
Tonight is our first of new dreams...and without any overstatement at all I will say that we are discussing the most important topic in the entire world. There is absolutely nothing more important than our topic this evening. Nothing - not success, not money, not sex, not my family, not my own life.
It is a subject of the highest importance, what we would properly say - first importance, to us as a body of people and to you as a human being created by God. In fact, Paul, an early crazy guy, who was one of the most influential followers of Jesus in the first century, said this in 1 Corinthians 15
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received:
....this written down in this letter to some Christians in Corinth represents what most scholars identify as an oral creed...so this would have been said orally by the early followers of Jesus.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received:
This is why this is our first new dream...Dream a new Dream about the gospel
