A Sacred Charge-Preach the Word
In the opening of Paul's last words to Timothy, he gives him several commands and charges. First he reminds him that his life is to be centered on the Word of God; he is to publically, openly proclaim the Scriptures. His leadership will consist of correcting, rebuking and exhorting others and this must be centered in the gospel not his own opinions or abilities.
People will Punk Out
People will not always want to listen to sound doctrine (Teaching) about Jesus Christ. It is much easier for us to make up our own gospel which is more amicable to our sensibilities. Paul exhorts Timothy not to punk out and turn from the truth to man made myths. When the world around us turns to a myriad of philosophies, religions and ideologies, our hope remains in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Sober Minded Faithfulness - Walking On Towards Glory
While the world might leave the biblical teaching and way of Jesus, we will remain focused upon him and his word. Life will be a fight, a battle for our worship and allegiance in the middle of a world wrought with chaos and sin. Our own lives must focus upon him daily to live upside down and finish the race of life faithfully. There is great reward at the end of this journey-eternity and God's Kingdom await and there is great reward ahead.
