Back to School

Did you like going to school when you were a kid? I didn’t always like it. I was really good in high school at having a “head ache” to keep me from going to school. It was usually to avoid some homework or project that I didn’t finish. I don’t know if my mother knew that I was faking or not. I have a confession to make this morning. Here it is – I got paddled once when I was in school. Looking back I probably deserved it because I was disobedient and refused to do what my teacher wanted me to do and I even tried to start a fight with one of my classmates. So my teacher jerked me up in front of all my classmates and paddled me and then called my mom and told her what I had done and how she responded to it. Do you know what is sad? It’s an adult who still acts like a 5 year old kindergarten kid. What is really sad is an adult who is a Christian and have been a Christian for many, many years and they still act like a baby Christian. A 3 or 4 year old kid who stomps their feet and crosses their arms and refuses to do something they are told to do is one thing – it can cute as they stand there and pout. An adult Christian who stomps their feet and crosses their arms and pouts because they don’t get their own way in church is not very pretty. Do you know why that happens to adult Christians in church? It’s because they’re still acting like babies and they haven’t grown up. They haven’t consecrated their entire lives to God and allowed the Holy Spirit to transform them, to sanctify them. They’re still living like they lived before they came to Christ.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Do you remember the Verizon Wireless commercials with the main character showing up in various places with a cell phone up to his ear giving you the impression that he was talking to someone? Whether he was in the city or out in a rural setting or someplace in-between he would always ask the question, “can you hear me now?” Of course the point that Verizon was trying to make was that their cell phone service was better than the competition. I believe that we need to hear from God again today! I don’t mean that we need to hear another sermon but that we need to have a life transforming revival from the Holy Spirit of God in our lives individually and in our church, and in our community. In our Scripture this morning Isaiah hears from God, not only does he hear from Him, but he is confronted by all his senses as he experiences being in the very presence of God. He is confronted by the Holiness of God.

Words Have Power

Certainly there are words that as Christians we shouldn’t say. We as Christians shouldn’t be known for the things that we don’t do or in this case the things that we don’t say but that we should be known for what we do or by what we do say.

Seeing as God Sees

When the Holy Spirit begins to transform our vision we begin seeing people as God sees them. The Bible tells us “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son”. We begin seeing people as persons that God loves so much that He gave His only son Jesus. We come to the realization that as we look at people through God’s eyes that we see them as people to be loved and we point them to Jesus.

Reality Check

Are you tired of trying to keep connected with God through mere morality? Are you tired of knowing an awful lot about God but precious little of God? Are you exhausted from trying to make the Christian life work in your own strength?
