A Lesser Virtue

Christians don't hear enough about the virtue of perseverance. We hear a lot about faith, hope, and love, but not about what keeps us going through hard times. Perseverance is essential to the faith. We must run and (most importantly) finish the race.

Poverty and Riches

Proverbs 30:7-9 is a prayer for contentment for neither poverty or riches, but just enough to meet daily needs. There is a danger in being rich (forgetting God and becoming arrogant) and a danger in being poor (stealing to meet your needs). The Bible says a lot about poverty; we need to care for those who are poor and learn from them (they tend to be humble) The Bible also has a lot to say about the rich. Christ followers who are rich need to be humble and hope in God and enjoy their money with thankfulness (1 Timothy 6:17-19).

Money In Your Marriage

Genesis 2 gives us the picture of what marriage is supposed to be like before sin entered the picture; it gives us implications for money in our marriages. We are to leave, cleave, and become one with our spouse. Your spouse is supposed to be your primary financial consideration. You should strive to be on the same page financially and share everything. If you are a parent, you should teach and train your children about the biblical view of money.

Pay What You Owe

The Bible is very clear that if you borrow money, you must pay it back on time. Pay everyone what you owe. The opposite of that is wicked (Psalm 37:21). This includes paying all of your taxes. It is a matter of obedience to the Lord to pay your loans, bills, and taxes. You are to give to Washington what is Washington's and to God what is God's. You are to pay to God what you owe Him, which is all of who you are.

The Heart of Giving

Giving is a beautiful thing and is the antidote (through Jesus) to worshiping money. The heart of Christian giving is a generous heart, because it is first a thankful heart for the gospel. Out of your salvation should come generosity, sacrificially giving with a cheerful heart because of all that Christ gave to you. Since God is so generous to us, he rewards cheerful giving. Expect God to meet all of your needs as you give out of your thankful, cheerful heart.

God Vs. Money, Part Two

When we steal, hoard, and crave money, then we are serving money instead of serving God. Instead of stealing and hoarding money, we must work and give our money (Ephesians 4:28). We must learn to be content with what we have and not crave money. The secret to this is to be content with what you already have in Christ Jesus. Trust in God instead of money.

Greater Than We Can Imagine

Psalm 145 is a psalm of praise (a Hymn Psalm) written by King David to God. David gives five different reasons why God is greater than we can imagine in this psalm: His deeds, compassion, Kingdom, faithful love, and nearness to His people. Our response to God for these things should be like David's response - we should praise God every day!

God Vs. Money, Part One

Jesus made it clear that we cannot serve both God and money. We must choose between the two, which is a lot harder than what it sounds like. Worrying about money is a way that we serve money instead of God. Instead of placing our trust and hope in money, we have to place our trust and hope in God.

The Lord's Money and The Lord's Heart

The Bible is very clear that everything on earth, including all of the world's wealth, belongs to God. We are, therefore, stewards (managers) of all that God gives us. In order to be good stewards, we have to learn what is on God's heart for our money and then use it in that way.

My Money, My Heart

Money is profoundly spiritual. What we do with our money involves our hearts (the center of our lives). The Lord can tell what our spiritual condition is (or what the center of our lives are) by what we do with our money and can change our hearts through the way we use money as well.
