What Makes A Man? Humility
We start inside, with the heart of a man and his fundamental view of God and himself. A proper self-image is one where the glory of God overwhelms our pride and self-focus, to then see ourselves as we are. Humility, then, is a Godward orientation of the heart that neither exalts nor belittles the place of man in life and society.

Prodigal Sons
Youve heard the story, or at least heard of it. You probably know some of the obvious themes, but do you understand how Jesus is defining sin? Do you know which son is really lost? Do you know that the father is a prodigal too? Have I sparked your curiosity? Listen and soak in with fresh ears the teaching of Jesus’ teaching on the prodigals, and celebrate over that which was lost being found.

Set Free...To Boast in the Cross
Well, weve come to the final text in the book of Galatians and we find Paul grabbing the pen from his secretary and summing up the main argument of the book. What is it? That the Gospel is about the heart, not the externals, and that it is about what God has done, not what man can do. That, my friends, is a message you can never preach to yourself too often. When tempted to boast in what you are capable of, or when you feel the inconsistency of how you act with what is really going on in your soul, come back to the cross. The cross is the only thing a Christian should boast in; and the work of God in making you a new creation your only place of confidence. Boast no more in self or your accomplishments, no really … NO more!

Set Free...To Reap a Harvest
In any kind of competition or test it doesnt take long to see if someone is well prepared for the day. Typically the one who is better prepared walks away winning and even if they didn’t succeed there is a satisfaction that the best effort was given and all is not lost. The principle of reaping and sowing is true. The investment or lack of investment is seen on the day of the test. The principle applies to the Christian life as well. We trust whole-heartedly in the grace of God for the salvation and transformation of our souls. This being true, must be diligent! If we relentlessly prepare in the Spirit, we will see spiritual success on the day of the test.

Set Free...To Bear One Another's Burdens
We have a fantastic opportunity in Jesus to serve and to be served. Although we are no longer under the law, we are not released from keeping Gods moral requirements. But not only did Jesus send us the Holy Spirit to help us do that, he also sent you and me! We are called to walk out our faith together in community. Youre not alone! We are His hands and feet to each other and the whole world! There may be times when we hesitate to get involved because we may think it really isnt any of my business. But be encouraged, the Spirit will help you to help others!

Set Free...To Walk By The Spirit
Theres just no getting around it … the Christian life is a struggle. Sometimes the word struggle may even feel a bit tame. Battle, or even war might better characterize the conflict you and I feel between the lusts of the flesh and the desire for Gospel-living. Does it mean I dont love Jesus? Dont care about the Gospel? No, in fact often times the intensity of the battle means you care greatly about living life to the glory of God. You so intensely know the wickedness that still creeps out of your heart and into your choices and you grow weary over the lack of progress you see. My brother, my sister, take heart! You dont fight alone, and you dont fight in your own strength. God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts (Galatians 4:6) and as a son you are led by the Spirit. The question now becomes, will you walk by the Spirit or walk in the flesh?

Set Free...To Selflessly Love Others
So Ive loved our study in the book of Galatians up to this point, but maybe not all of you have. Doctrine, theology, law, Hagar … maybe not your cup of tea? Well, now is the time to wake-up, it only gets better. Our belief must rightly influence our behavior, our creeds must shape our conduct, and these final two chapters do just that for us. So lest you think freedom from the penalty of sin and the guilt of sin means freedom to do whatever your little heart desires … wrong! When you have been set free by the wondrous grace of God, you are now free to turn away from self and radically serve others. This is where turn-the-world-upside-down type living starts – worshippers of God who love the cross, live in grace, say no to the flesh, and say yes to loving others with the love with which you yourself have been loved. Let’s show em Leroy Chapel … lets show the world how much we love God by loving others selflessly.

Set Free..To Live Free
Okay, dont freak about this crazy passage of Scripture, lets take it a step at a time. Its actually a great argument Paul uses against those who take pride in their keeping of the law … and the legalists of our day. They (Law-relying Jews) think Hagar is the enemy and that they are on the right team (Sarah). But Paul shows them how by relying on the works of the law over the promise by faith, they actually are the sons of the slave-woman Hagar. They boast in their own destruction, find their identity in slavery, and mock those who really are free. How sad, how tragically sad. Here is the great application of this passage: Dont let deluded people steal your freedom and rest in the promise that God blesses the barren one!
