Set Free...To Have True Relationships
This life in Christ thing is never just about you. Christ has set you free from the guardianship of the law and the wrath of the curse so you might freely love others and labor to see them live free in Christ. Such a grand and glorious doctrine as justification by faith always has a partner to it, and that partner is called true relationships. When someone really recognizing who they were in the darkness and what they have become through the Gospel, love for others will be the fruit of that faith. Selfish living is fought against and building a Gospel-saturated, truth-speaking, grace-flowing community that invites true relationship is the goal of life.

Set Free...And Adopted as Sons
Being set free through faith to be in Christ means that we are not just slaves in His mansion, but sons in His home entitled to the full privileges of sonship. The law kept guard over the child telling him what to do and where to go, withholding the inheritance and essentially treating him as a slave. But God … in His perfect timing sent His Son and His Spirit to change all of that. Through Christ, God lavishes the riches of the family on those He adopted as His own kids and they rejoice in the freedom of being His sons. Are you rejoicing in that this morning? Are you inheriting the riches of the family?

Set Free...And United With Christ
What grown up plays with childrens toys? Obviously only one who hasnt yet discovered that grown up toys are far more fun. The law is children’s play, the promise, real life. The law was the babysitter keeping the kids in check until the fullness of time came and faith in Jesus Christ was on the scene. The real blessing is not found in been guarded or imprisoned by the law, but by being united with Christ. Jesus is the offspring of Abraham to whom all the blessings of the promise come to fruition. And when we are united to Christ, we become the recipients of that blessing. You’ll love what being united with Jesus brings about in your life, just listen …

Set Free...By the Promise
Good news is easily forgotten when bad news is absent. A cure for cancer is a nice idea for the one who is healthy, but for the one dying of cancer with only a few weeks to live, the cure is absolute bliss. How is it that so many can pass by the claims of Christ, smile at a nice man who liked children, but reject His offer of salvation? Theyve missed the bad news. In this section of Galatians, Paul is making crystal clear that justification comes by faith alone, apart from the works of the law. So why the Law? Paul’s simple answer: To make the bad news really bad. Men and women will only run to Jesus for salvation when they feel the weight of the Law revealing sin and offering only condemnation. Is the Gospel good news to you? Maybe you need to hear some bad news.

Set Free...From Relying on Works
I dont think you wake up every morning determined to perform the works of the law. You and I dont have church leaders invading us with calls to become more Jewish. But I know without a doubt there is a battle that goes on in you between believing that faith in God is enough and relying on what youll accomplish today to gain blessing and acceptance. How do I know this? Its a human condition. You feel good if you “do good” and guilty when you “do bad”. You think you deserve blessing when you make “good choices” and hope disaster doesn’t come when you make “bad choices”. This is the problem of your heart the book of Galatians seeks to set you free from. Over the next few weeks we dive into some deep Biblical waters, so put on your thinking cap, expose the honest condition of your heart, and cherish the blessing of God that comes through faith.

Set Free...From Trying to Perfect Ourselves
Have you ever found yourself looking for a better way, a secret way or maybe the “3 new steps” to spiritual growth? It sounds good and everybody at church is doing it, so it must be right. Right? But what you find is that even though you followed all the directions there is no real change. The answer: stop looking for a “better way” and place your trust once again in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The gospel sets us free from our sin AND from trying to change our own lives.

Justified By Faith
The book of Galatians answers the question of how we are saved. We are saved not by our nationality, our heritage or by the works of the Law. Both Jew and Gentiles who believe are saved in the same way, by faith in Christ. Both are declared justified when they trust in Christ who lived a perfect life and died on the cross for their sin. He was buried as rose from the dead, that believing they might have eternal life. Both our justification and Christs righteousness are credited to us when we put our faith and trust in Christ as Savior.

From Hypocrisy
There is always a pull to live one way with a certain group of people and another way with a different group … this is called hypocrisy. The Gospel frees us to live one way, out loud, before all who watch, because when your heart is free you have nothing to hide from men. Are you are fence-walker? Do you straddle groups, so desperately trying to be approved of by both? Peter did, so dont beat yourself up. Lets just learn to walk out what we believe about the freedom of the Gospel into the lifestyle we live.

Set Free...To Preserve Unity
Part of the diabolic schemes of the Judaizers in undermining the Gospel was to sow seeds of doubt and division between the Jerusalem leaders and Paul. They werent robbing Peter to pay Paul but playing Peter against Paul. This issue regarding the law between Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians could have created a split that we may have never recovered from. But thanks be to God who, through the Gospel, preserved the unity of the Church. Paul and the Jerusalem leaders recognized that they did indeed preach the same message of salvation in Jesus alone as they were sent to different groups of people. The cultural context may change, the methods may change, but the message must never change. The freedom weve found in Christ is not for you alone, but for the single proclamation of Jesus through His One Church.
