Ephesus: The Loveless Church

Much like a loveless marriage where spouses drift apart over time, churches and Christians can suffer the same loss in their spiritual relationship with Christ. Ephesus was church who had lost its first love. While the hands of the Ephesians were busy working for God, their hearts were far from God. In His first of seven report cards to the churches of Asia Minor, the Lord pointed out how the love of the Ephesians had faded. He also told them what to do to fix their coldness.

Jesus in High Definition

For centuries artists have tried to guess at what Jesus might have looked like. In Revelation chapter 1 we have the closest thing to a portrait of our risen Lord. The apostle John did not use conventional tools to portray Christ, but he did use word pictures and symbolism that have stood the test of time. John’s description of Jesus is a masterpiece to behold in our mind’s eye, for here we get a glimpse of what I could call, “Jesus in High-Definition.”

A Prelude to Prophecy

In the first verses of Revelation we discover a powerful prologue to this panorama of prophecy. These opening remarks set the tone for the rest of the book and give us basic information like—the theme, reason for writing, main subject and authorship. A Baby Changes Everything

Imagine how a teenage girl from Nazareth must have felt when her whole life was turned upside-down in the time it takes an angel to flutter his wings. In Luke chapter 1, we have one of the classic Christmas texts in which the birth of Jesus is announced to Mary by the angel Gabriel. Mary’s response to the angel teaches us several timeless lessons we can apply to our faith.

A Soldier's Last Words

Final words can leave a lasting impression. In the last two chapters of Joshua what we have is the farewell address of the Bible’s greatest soldier—Gen. Joshua. In his closing remarks, Joshua expresses to the nation his hopes, dreams and desires that they continue to serve God. We find in his address, practical wisdom on how to maintain a life of spiritual victory.
