Ecclesiastes Part 6: 3 Handfuls

====================================
Ecclesiastes- Part 6- 3 Handfuls
====================================

Ecclesiastes 4:4-6 NIV
And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.  Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves.  Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.

3 Postures of the Hands

1. FOLDED HANDS (v.5)
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 6:10-11 NIV
•'Yad‘ (Hb.:יַד):
• power, strength, energy, time
• What your hand finds to do, or what you do with the life you’ve been given

2. TWO HANDFULS with toil (v.6b)
• 'Chophen' (Hb.: חָפְנַ֫יִם):
• grasping, fists, handfuls
• ‘obsessive competition’

Ecclesiastes 4:4 NIV
And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

3. ONE HANDFUL with tranquility (v.6b)
• 'Kaph' (Hb.:כָף):
• flat of the palm, an open hand
• a ‘limited amount’
• Tranquility = peace, rest, quietness

“Rather would I have my ease, though I possess little, than acquire more and have all the vexation that goes with it.” (H.C. Leupold)

Matthew 3:16-17 NIV
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

John 5:19 NIV
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
