Romans 13:1-7 Our Duty to Those in Authority Over Us

Theme: The apostle Paul reminds Christians of their duty to the civil authorities. 1. Civil authorities are governors and ministers of God, vv. 1-4 Psa. 147:5; 1 Sam. 2:8; Judges 17:6; Micah 4:4; Acts 24:2. 2. Civil authorities are to be honored, submitted to, and supported, vv. 5-7 Mal. 1:6; Jude 8; Acts 23:3-4; Ex. 20:12; WSC Q. & A. 64; 1 Peter 2:13-15, 17; Matt. 17:24-27. 3. We are to be thankful and walk worthy of our calling. 1 Tim. 2:1-3; Matt. 22:15-22; Rev. 19:16; Joshua 1:8; Rev. 2:10.

Another Picture of Hell

Theme: Zophar describes the fate of the wicked. 1. The wicked will be disappointed by fading joy, vv. 1-11 Job 19:25-27; Psa. 49:11-12; 90:3-6; Isa. 53:3, 9-12. 2. The wicked will be poisoned by sweet evil, vv. 12-19 Pro. 20:17; 9:17; Deut. 32:32-33; Heb. 11:24-26; Pro. 23:5; John 6:27; Matt. 6:33. 3. The wicked will be overwhelmed by inescapable wrath, vv. 20-28 Job 16:19; 19:25-27. 4. Conclusion, v. 29 - Acts 14:22; 2 Tim. 2:12; 3:12.

Romans 12:19-21 Vengeance is Mine, says the LORD!

Theme: The Christian does not avenge himself but overcomes evil in this world by the goodness of Christ. 1.
