Jesus' Baptism

As we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord, it is important to keep in mind that the baptism our Lord received was not Christian baptism – the type we receive today. Jesus told his disciples in the Triune Name; John the Baptist’s baptism of Jesus was not in the Triune Name. John baptized only with water. Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Rise and Shine

The prophet Isaiah wants the people of Israel to see the light, the Glory of the Lord! The Bible often contrasts light and darkness with good and evil, but this Glory of the Lord is different. It was used to describe the visible evidence of God’s presence. He is so certain that God would keep his promise that he speaks of it as if it has already come – the promise of Jesus Christ. So many today though remain in the dark. Are you prepared to share the light that is within you?

Simeon's Song

Mary and Joseph brought the baby Jesus to the temple 40 days after his birth to make offerings and sacrifices. Simeon, with the power of the Holy Spirit, recognized the tiny baby and offers up the Nunc Dimittis.

Who is this Jesus?

Luke writes to people who didn’t have biblical knowledge, to the Gentiles, so that they may have certainty concerning the things that they have been taught – through stories of Jesus and eyewitness accounts. Luke gives concrete details, specifics in time and location, so that all may know exactly who Jesus is – the son of David, the son of Abraham, the son of Mary, the son of God!

Trust the Truth

Micah prophesied of one who would come out of Bethlehem. Other prophets gave many different pieces to the puzzle of who the coming Messiah would be. But this one piece is surprising, as it would be expected he would be born in Jerusalem, not the tiny town of Bethlehem. God has a knack of using the what seems to be negligible and unimportant to display his power.
