It's Okay to Be Angry

When anger knocks, we have little choice but to open the door and let it visit. We do not, however, have to let it move in. It does not need to make our hearts its permanent dwelling place. But, when we let anger in, when we welcome it for what it has to teach us and how it can transform us, simply by rubbing up against it we ourselves can become a little more holy. And that, friends, is one way we become imitators of God.

Welcoming the Implanted Word

James calls its readers to act consciously and ethically. To physically live out the Gospel day by day. Yet, James warns that far too often we are quick to listen to the Word in worship and slow to act.We worship, we pray, we study, we preach, we do sacraments, we hear the implanted Word. Can we respond as “doers of the word” to God’s divine initiative of the implanted word in our lives? No doubt, hearing comes first. It requires the discipline of studying, hearing the word of God, and knowing how to live out our faith, but also the discipline of acting after we hear.

We Need Each Other

Let us live like resurrected people. Let us look around and see the people around us—the ones we know and the ones we don’t. See them. Connect with them. Listen to them. Learn from them. The world needs us to live this way. God longs for us to live this way. So, let’s give it our best effort — and let’s do it together.
