Pressing On Toward The Goal
Pressing On Toward The Goal Philippians 3:7-14 Paul says he has many reasons to put confidence in the law. His “religious pedigree” includes circumcision, tribe of Benjamin, a pharisee, and legalistic righteousness. Everything Paul once considered profit he now sees as loss and calls it all rubbish. Paul speaks of a righteousness that comes from law and a righteousness that comes from God by faith. In Philippians 3:10, Paul wants to know three things. He wants to know Christ. He wants to know the power of His resurrection and he wants to know the fellowship of sharing in his suffering. Paul realizes that he has not fully realized or attained his goal but he has purposed in his heart and is determined to press on. He says, “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I Press on.

The First: Deception-Sin-Consequences
Journey of Beginnings The First: Deception-Sin-Consequences Scripture: Genesis chapter 3 Three cunning tactics of Satan exposed: 1. He tries to instill doubt and unbelief in what God says. (verse 1a) 2. He tries to create confusion with what God says . (verse 1b) 3. He tries to imply that she is being deprived by God. (verse 4) The “set up” for deception and what to watch out for: 1. Overstating the restriction; feeling slighted (verse 2a) 2. Understating the consequences; not connecting the dots (verse 2b) 3. The fruit looked good, pleasant, and desirable - the addictive three (verse 6) The big unanswered question: Where is Adam, the dear husband and fearless leader? (verse 6) 1. Eve was being deceived. (1 Timothy 2:14 2. Adam walked into disobedience knowing better. (1Timothy 2:14) Two destructive ways in responding to guilt: 1. To hide and try a false cover for our shame. (verse 7,10,11) 2. To blame someone or something. (verse 12,13) The consequences of sin: 1. Serpent- you are cursed above all, crawl on your belly and eat dust all your life. There will be enmity between you and the woman. Her offspring will crush your head. (verse 14,15) 2. Woman-Your pain in childbearing will be severe. There will be tension as to who is in charge, but he (your husband) will rule over you. (verse 16) 3. An earth before Adam and Eve that was overthrown by Lucifer’s revolt DOES GOD CREATE AND EMPTY FORMLESS EARTH (Isaiah 45:18) According to Isaiah God did not create the earth empty and formless. HOW DID THE EARTH GET LIKE THIS? (Isaiah 14:12ff; Jer. 4:23-27; 2 Peter 3:6-7 Lucifer because of pride and rebellion was cast out of heaven. 1. I will ascend into heaven. 2. I will set my throne above the stars. 3. I will sit upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north. 4. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. 5. I will make myself like the Most High. Is this the man that shook the earth and made kingdoms to tremble, and opened not the graves of its prisoners? Two Key Words: 1. Created (bara) to call into existence that which did not exist before 2. Made (asah) to form or fashion something out of material already existing. How Do I Become a Christ Follower
HOW DO I BECOME A CHRIST FOLLOWER Scripture: John 9:1-41 Five historical ways the church has created confusion for those seeking to become Christ followers: 1. By acceptance of theological assumptions as truth when their bases is faulty. (verse 2) 2. By interpreting truth from the bases of tradition. (verse 14) 3. By requiring adherence to church law at the expense of truth. (verse 22) 4. By establishing the authority of truth by citing history. (verses 28,29) 5. By attempting to preserve reputation at the expense of the authentic. (verse 41) How do I become a Christ follower? 1. By admitting that we all were spiritually blind. (verse 1) 2. By doing what Jesus asks us to do. (verse 7) 3. By being bold and honest about our encounter with Jesus. (verses 9-12) 4. By growing in our understanding of who Jesus is. (verses 17, 33, 38) 5. By believing and trusting HIM (verses 36-38)

God’s Passion: To Be Worshipped Among All Nations
God’s Passion: To Be Worshipped Among All Nations His heartbeat: 1. “I myself will provide for my sheep and look after them.” 2. You will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendor. 3. To Pharaoh: (Ex.9:13-16) “I have raised you up: a. that I might show you My power and; b. that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 4. To the house of Israel: (Ez.36:16-23) a. “I had concern for My holy name.” b. You profaned My name by your disobedience. c. “I will show Myself holy through you before their eyes.” d. “Then the nations will know that I am LORD.” Conclusion: Missions is the vehicle to bring all nations to the feet of our great God! Worship is the fuel and goal of missions. Quote from John Piper: “Missions isn’t the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It’s the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into the white-hot enjoyment of God’s glory.” (Let the Nations be Glad, the Supremacy of God in Missions)

When Worship Becomes Your Alibi
365 Worship When Worship Becomes Your Alibi What is our response when God shows up? ‘And they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.’ John 4:24 If true or acceptable worship is in ‘spirit and in truth,’ than it follows that as a worshipper encounters God, he or she is called to an authentic and proper response. The worship of a living God that responds to our worship can never be passive. We must not be people who C S. Lewis described when he wrote, ‘We have become all about discovering Him, yet controlling and limiting our response. 1. Your worship is proven by your life. ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.’ Galatians 5:22-23 We cannot worship God in any significant way and not have the fruit of His Spirit breaking down the door to express Himself in us and through us. 2. The Delusion created by worship Malachi 1:10 ‘Who is there among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on my alter in vain?’ There is a dangerous spiritual condition generated when we continue to live in secret sin and yet feel close to God in worship. Close encounters with God without life changing responses create a false sense that everything must be OK. A true worshipper lives in defiance of human reason and expectation.
