Godly Living in a Secular Age
Godly Living in a Secular Age Scripture: Daniel the first chapter Drive through the suburbs of modern Baghdad today and you will find the scattered ruins of ancient Babylon. In this new series based on the book of Daniel, we’ll see, through the paintbrush of scripture, Babylon rise from the dust, robe herself in riches, and paint her face like a woman of the night. Make no mistake: she aims to seduce. Posing as the beautiful life, she morphs into the current image of what every worldly man or woman wants to be-deserves to be. She is popular. She is desirable. She is intoxicating. And did I say religious? Ah, yes. She believes in so much of everything that one would be hard-pressed to tell if she believes in anything. To worship self is to worship her. She is dressed for success, but underneath she is a lifeless mannequin, a fake, a poser. Her prop is the devil himself. Few could resist Babylon’s charms but Daniel holds his place in Scripture because he was one of the few. Join us as we develop alarms for Babylon’s charms, Sunday’s January 25th – April 5th What happens when the sins of the culture become the sins of the church and God says, “Enough?†(Verse 1, 2) He sends us back to revisit our past long enough to repent. Four powerful influences to compromising with the Babylonian culture 1. Enticing integration (Verse 3) 2. Wholesale indoctrination (Verse 4) 3. It seems cool to compromise (Verse 6) 4. We face identity confusion (Verse 7) We are surrounded by a Babylon of our own. 1. We place a high premium on age, appearance, intelligence and social status. (Verse 4) 2. We no longer blush or have shame over sin (Jer. 6:15) 3. Complete self absorption and self worship. “I am, and there is none besides me.†(Isa. 47:10) 4. There is nothing more dangerous then a friendly Babylon 5. In spite of Babylon’s charms it never stays friendly. We all are in danger of becoming spiritually irrelevant without resolve. (Verse 8-21) 1. Resolve that you will never be ashamed of Jesus in all your relationships and activities. 2. Resolve that you will have your entire learning process pass the grid of God’s revealed truth. 3. Resolve that you will bring moral clarity to all your choices. 4. Resolve that you are of royal seed and a King’s kid. Sources: The Preachers Commentary – Sinclair B. Gathering on Purpose
Gathering on Purpose MCCh VISION: Acts 2:42-47 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. We are an Evangelical Anabaptist fellowship in the Goshen Community that: · Believes the WORD and does the WORKS of Jesus · Celebrates in worship · Equips people to pray and minister · Connects people in meaningful relationships through: à Small Groups and Ministry Team · Seeks to relate to all people in a loving, healing, forgiving environment where spiritual growth is expected.

Leadership Transition: Running with Purpose
Leadership Transition: Running with Purpose Hebrews 12: 1-3 Four important principles to remember during a transition 1. Run the race that is marked out for you - For us 2. Be aware of the sin that gets you so easily tangled up 3. Learn from those who have run the race before us 4. Lets keep our focus and stay on course My personal race What we as a leadership team have discussed so far: 1. We have used the symbol of a relay with the passing on of the baton. 2. The transition would be over a period of time. The timing has not yet been determined but we will be trying to do what is most helpful for the church. 3. We will get an outside consultant to help lead this process. What would my future role be with Maple City Chapel? 1. I will take the role that the leadership team and I believe is the most helpful for the church. What can the church expect from us? 1. We will try to stay current with our communication about the transition process 2. We will process this decision in various layers as we have with past major decisions. 3. Each of you will be given a voice in the final decision. What would we like from you? 1. Pray about this leadership transition process 2. Give us you Spirit led discernment and wise counsel along the way 3. Be patient with us - we have not gone this way before

Forming Rock Like Faith From The Journey
Forming Rock Like Faith From The Journey Joshua 4: 6-24 The superstructures of our lives are built upon the foundation of our memories. We are instructed by our memories as to the most creative way to live in the present, and they help equip us with a positive hope for the future. This scripture helps us understand that hope for the future is actually nourished from memories of the past-which helps bring meaning to the present. Memories are important! Jesus Has Come to Camp in our Neighborhood
Jesus Has Come to Camp in our Neighborhood What does the word incarnation mean? There always was a ____________ in eternity past – even in the midst of tremendous glory (John 17:5) A ___________ was prepared for Him. (Hebrews 10:5; John 1:14) He was born in Bethlehem with a _____________ for a bassinet. (Luke 2: 7) When He was approximately ____________, his parents escaped with him during the night and fled to Egypt. (Matthew 2:14) When He was ____________ they left Egypt. After the death of Herod it was safe to return to Nazareth. (Matthew 2:23) At the age of _______________, at His baptism he began his public ministry. (Matthew 3:13) Most of what we know about Jesus took place the next three years. He was crucified at the age of 33. God raised Him from the dead three days later. Forty days later at his 10th appearance, the eleven saw him return to heaven. (Gospels) There are three practical ministry points of the incarnation for Christ followers today. 1. Our ______________ is complete. 2. High-Priestly ________________ is made possible for each one of us. 3. The visible ____________ of Jesus Christ will take place.

Would I have Found Him?
Would I have Found Him? We still look for Him, and wonder at His ways as we try and come to terms with His ability to hide His profoundness in plain sight. How could anyone know that they were to follow a star to find a King? The quest of the wise men and their subsequent success offers reassurance to us that even the most unexplainable and difficult ways of God can be discovered and followed. 1. Recognizing His directives. 2. Setting priorities to realize the goal. 3. Dealing with doubt. 4. Retaining strength for the quest.

Does the Cross Have Power for You?
Does the Cross Have Power for You? I Corinthians 1:17-31 The problem in the Church at Corinth was that Christians were seeking to promote their own status inside the Christian community by introducing the worldly wisdom of eloquent preaching and prideful self-achievements. What empties the cross of its power? (Verse 17) 1. Promoting human wisdom for the answers to life 2. Depending on our cleverness to bring about life change. The preaching of the cross divides people in two groups: (Verse 18) 1. It is foolishness to those who are pereshing. 2. It is the power of God to those who are being saved. God is out to reject the wisdom of this world (Verse 19) 1. He will dystroy their wisdom and frustrate their intelligence. God gets great pleasure from what the world calls “foolish preaching.†(Verse 20-25) 1. People are actually getting saved and the power and wisdom of God is changing them! Listen to the refreshing wisdom of God (Verses 26-30) 1. God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. 2. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 3. God chose the lowly things of this world and the “despised nobodies†to nullify the "somebody’s.†WHY (verses 17, 29, 31) So that the cross of Christ won’t be emptied of its power So that we know better than to personally boast before Him! So that we will only boast in the Lord
