Let God Arise

Let God Arise “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:5 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in Him.” 1 John 2:15 “The world exerts a terrible influence over the Christian that does not know that, in Christ, he/she has been crucified to the world. Most Christians are either utterly ignorant of the danger of a worldly spirit, or they feel themselves utterly powerless to conquer it.” Andrew Murray David knew pain, misunderstanding, betrayal, sin; yet, in it all he rises in faith and writes- “The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted.” Ps. 18:46 “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered.” Ps. 68:1 Job experienced a seeming abandonment from God and knew loss on all fronts; yet, in the middle of it all he declares - “Though He slay me yet will I trust Him. He also shall be my salvation.” Job 13:15-16 “I know that my Redeemer lives….” Job 19:25 Habakkuk wrestles with God over the sins of his people. He accepts the reality that he will also suffer along with the people simply because he is a part of the sinful nation. He concludes – “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines…..and there be no herd in the stalls – yet will I rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength.” Hab. 3:17-19 It is only as we are led by the Spirit every day in all situations that we can abide in Christ, conquering the flesh and the world. It is only as we are filled with the Spirit that the promise of Jesus can be fully understood and experienced: “Lo I am with you always…” Matthew 28:20

How Does Jesus Define His Church?

How Does Jesus Define His Church? Scripture: Luke 4:16-30 We dare not let our culture, business practices, or even our denominational traditions define the church for us. If we attempt to duplicate the practices of other churches without measurement against our mission and vision, we will never reach our full potential. Jesus’ first sermon in His hometown church gives clear insight on His thoughts regarding what the very nature of His church should be. The setting: Jesus ministering in His home town of Nazareth Five powerful proclamations of grace that will be the defining moments for His church! The church is to proclaim: 1. The gospel (good news) will be preached to the poor. The trapped and powerless are to receive hope. 2. The captives will be released The human spirit will be set free of all strongholds and bondages. 3. The blind will see. All blindness of the human heart and mind will be exposed to the light of truth. 4. The downtrodden will be free from their oppressors. Justice will be restored. 5. The time of the Lord’s favor has come. Enough is enough! The Lord has come to restore what was taken.

Why Should I Commit Myself to a Local Church?

Why Should I Commit Myself to a Local Church? Scripture: Ephesians 2:19-22 Three cultural influences robbing the church of commitment 1. A consumer mentality. 2. A renters attitude. 3. A desire for comfort and efficiency. Four important values to check out in a church before making a commitment 1. Does the leadership have a track record of integrity? 2. Does the church have a high view of the inspiration of scripture? 3. Is the church committed to prayer, evangelism and discipleship? 4. Is Jesus present when the church gathers? Four biblical reasons to commit yourself to the church 1. God places us in a church family to get connected. (verse 19) 2. The church is the foundation and connection for spiritual growth. (verse 20,21) 3. It is where God lives by His Spirit. (verse 22) 4. A Christ follower without a church family is an orphan. Welcome to the Maple City family. We invite you to become a member. We have a simple, sincere expression of welcome. “Whom Christ receives we receive” Why? Because the Bible does not make a distinction between requirements in the universal Body of Christ and its local expression. (1 Cor. 12:13) We welcome you even though we may differ on matters of Christian liberty (Rom. 14:1, 3; 15:7) We welcome you on the basis of your faith in Christ, not on whether we agree on all of our doctrine (Acts 18:24-28; Ephesians 4:13) We welcome you on the basis of your life in Christ, not by your former church connections. We welcome and receive you without any partiality. (Eph. 2:11-21; James 2:1-5)

U.S.A. Church Problem #1 "Attracted to Jesus Without a Cross"

USA Church Problem #1 “Attracted to Jesus Without a Cross” Scripture : John 12:20-32 Are you attracted to a Jesus without a Cross? (Verse 20-22) FOUR REASONS WE ARE COMPELLED TO TAKE UP OUR CROSS: 1. Christ followers come to understand that there is glory in the CROSS. (Verse 23) 2. Much Fruit is promised if we are willing to deny self and take up our cross. (Verse 24,25) 3. Christ followers learn to serve out of the right motivation by taking up our cross. (verse 26) 4. God honors cross bearing where ever He sees it (Verse 26) CAN TAKING UP OUR CROSS EVER BE AN OPTION FOR CHRIST FOLLOWERS? (Verse 27) 1. Making the choice to take up the cross will bring heaven’s backing. (Verse 28-30) 2. Making the choice to take up the cross will bring us into spiritual battle but Satan will be defeated every time. (Verse 31) 3. There is an awesome unexplained drawing power about the cross! (Verse 32) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

My Way Doesn’t Work (But I still like it)

My Way Doesn’t Work (But I still like it) “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:27 The renowned ethicist, John Kavanaugh writes of when he went to Calcutta to work at ‘the house of the dying’ for three months. This was due to a heartfelt search for personal direction. On his first morning there Mother Teresa asked him, “What can I do for you?” He replied, “Pray for me that I may find clarity”. She responded firmly, “No, I will not do that. Clarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of”. John commented that she always seemed to have the clarity that he longed for. She laughed and said, “I have never had clarity; what I have had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God”.

Youth Sunday 2008

Maple City Youth Group exists to equip teenagers for ministry, to reach non-believing students, to connect them with other Christ followers, to help them grow in their faith and to worship God with their lives. Jr. High A team of volunteer coaches, with the oversight of Pastor Scott, put together dynamic Wednesday night meetings for kids in 7th and 8th grade. Worship time happens with the Sr. High band and then its back to the Jr. High theater for study and fun. Once a month we get together for a social event. Annually we do things like the Acquire the Fire event, a four day camp out at the Alive Music Festival and get locked in at MCCh for the 30-hour Famine to raise money for those in famine-stricken areas of the world. Sr. High Welcome to Youth Group! We can be a bit crazy at times but overall we're just a group that wants to know Jesus better and desire Him to impact every area of our lives. Whether you're a strong Christian or just curious, MCYG is the place to find out what being a Christian is all about. There are tons of activities and many ways you can be involved. We invite you to join in and look forward to getting to know you! We get together weekly on Wednesday nights for worship and Bible teaching...don't misunderstand, this is not your daddy's Bible study! Pastor Scott uses all types of technology and teaching tools to communicate Jesus Christ in a style that we can all understand. Every year we leave for a week and go on a mission trip, alternating state-side and overseas. We've been to Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ohio, Kentucky, Canada and Haiti. During our outreach we serve through construction, drama, music, feeding the hungry and simply loving those we connect with. Our mission trips have been life changing for both the people we reach out to and for the members of our group.
