Grieving the Spirit? Stop Sinning.

Ephesians 4:17-32

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  (Ephesians 4:30)

Grieve, Lupeo – to cause pain, distress and sorrow as being in travail

Sins that grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:19-31)

            Sensuality with all kinds of impurity (verse 19)

            Greed (verse 19)

            Lying (verse 25)

            Anger that is sinful and rage (verse 26 & 31)

            Foul or abusive language (verse 29)

            Bitterness (verse 31)

            Slander and fighting (verse 31)

            Bad, wicked behavior of all kinds (verse 31)

Three powerful initiatives of the Holy Spirit when He is grieved

1.      The Holy Spirit wants to birth “new creation”. (Genesis 1:1,2)

2.      Where the Spirit is released there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)

3.      The Spirit empowers a glorious transformation. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
