My Way Doesn’t Work

(But I still like it)

“And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:27

The renowned ethicist, John Kavanaugh writes of when he went to Calcutta to work at ‘the house of the dying’ for three months. This was due to a heartfelt search for personal direction.

On his first morning there Mother Teresa asked him, “What can I do for you?”

He replied, “Pray for me that I may find clarity”.

She responded firmly, “No, I will not do that. Clarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of”.

John commented that she always seemed to have the clarity that he longed for.

She laughed and said, “I have never had clarity; what I have had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God”.
