The Secret to Contentment
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
I – suggests personal involvement and response-ability (internal locus of control)
Can – indicates possibility thinking, optimism, and competence (self-efficacy)
Do – indicates action, commitment, effort, sacrifice, and courage
A. These three words make up one Greek word (ischyō) – to be strong, to have power, to be a force (Acts 19:20, James 5:16)
All Things – anything and everything (Matt. 19:26, Mark 9:23)
Through – a fixed source (conduit) of power and strength (Psalm 139)
Him – Jesus, the Creator of the universe and the Savior of the world
Gives – implies a generous, open-handed father who loves to give good gifts to his children (Matt. 7:11)
Strength (dynamo) – strength, power (dynamite); to move from a position of weakness to a position of strength and power
