Col 3:1-4 "On being heavenly minded"

Church Message Outline

Colossians 3:1-4 - On being heavenly - minded

  1. Introduction
  2. Before Believers can reach this world with the Gospel of Christ, we must first leave it!
  3. Unless we rise above this world by being transformed by the renewing of our mind -             we will never to be able to appreciate the utter spiritual poverty in which the     unsaved world live. We will never develop a heavenly mindset?
  4. Paul reminds them of their position vs.1 (a)
  5. Since then, you have been raised with Christ

Beloved - The resurrection of Christ has forever changed everything for the world we live in and for every Christian.

  1. We have been co-resurrected with Christ - it is an accomplished fact.
  2. Paul shows what Christianity really is - a shared life - the life of Christ in us,                     our only hope of glory

III.    Paul reminds them of their resource 1(b)

  1. Colossians - YOU - keep seeking - present tense that indicates a continuing process!
  2. Matthew 6:33 tell us to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and                 all these things shall be added to you” My friends - this is to live in the heavenlies.
  3. We have all the resources of God in Christ Jesus

  1. Paul reminds them of their responsibility vs 2
  2. Paul now tells the Believer to - “change your point of view”

Have this inner disposition that is ongoing. You must not only seek heaven - you must also think heaven

  1. The believer’s mind should be consumed with heavenly things - A God-centered                         mindset

  1. Paul reminds the Colossians of the reason to seek things above and have a heavenly                     mindset- 3
  2. The reason to be living in the heavenlies is that we have died to the world system through         our faith and our union with Christ in His death and Resurrection
  3. On the cross, our old nature was crucified with Christ. It was crucified so that we could be     freed from sin. Paul tells us to “count” or think about yourself differently. You are dead to sin but alive to God.

  1. Paul reminds the Colossians that Christ is our life vs 4
  2. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” The     believer must also understand his/her future in Christ. Whatever you think about the future will affect how you live today.
