The readers of this letter to the Hebrews had experienced serious financial setbacks. There's lots of competing theories about death and the afterlife. But God has clearly revealed to us in His Word that death is the result of our rebellion against Him, and that because of Jesus' righteousness and the gift of the Spirit we will be raised from the dead, if we trust in Jesus.
Jesus tells His disciples that it's good news that He's leaving, because as a result of Jesus' leaving He sends them the Holy Spirit. This is good news, because the Holy Spirit empowers us in advancing Jesus' mission, as He convicts the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment.

Because of Jesus' death on the Cross, God can adopt us and become our Father; we can move from facing God's wrath as our Judge, to resting in God's love as our Father. Part of the Holy Spirit's ministry is to make our adoption real in our experience so we don't just know the doctrine of adoption, but we feel the reality of adoption.
