Genesis 13

Intro:

  1. Abraham is returning to where he was before his foolishness
  2. Abraham is now financially well off
  3. Abraham has some rebuilding to do with his credibility

I.         Gaining riches will test our character  - Proverbs 3:9

II.        Our core values are revealed in our ongoing decisions

III.       Blessings flow through us as we follow God’s financial principles.

           1.  We don’t deserve what follows us home.

           2.  Making a life is more important than making a living

Questions for this week:

I.  For Starters:

  1. How rich are you? Explain your answer.
  2. How would you answer this question? – How much is enough?
  3. Do you tend to be a spender or a saver when it comes to finances and how has this affected your life positively or negatively?

II. Overview of Scripture

  1. Read Genesis 13 out loud.  What stands out to you?
  2. What jumps out to you about Abraham? Lot?

III. Growing deeper

 Review Sunday’s message with someone.

  1. Abraham gave Lot first choice with the land probably to restore his credibility and to preserve his and Lot’s relationship. Read Hebrews 11:8-16. In what ways does this section of Scripture throw light on Genesis 13?
  2. Just exactly how is one’s faith revealed in his giving?
  3. Read Proverbs 9:10, 11:25 and 22:9.  What truths should every believer know in order to be financially successful?
  4. Finish with 1 Timothy 6:17-19.  How can one put the admonition in verse 17 together with the admonition in verse 18?
  5. Pray for one another that your hearts will grow in trusting God, enjoying what He has given and to grow in generosity.
