Biblical Roles Of Men and Women
Genesis 1-3
At the heart of mature masculinity is a sense of benevolent responsibility to lead, provide for and protect women in ways appropriate to a man's differing relationships.
At the heart of mature femininity is a freeing disposition to affirm, receive and nurture strength and leadership from worthy men in ways appropriate to a woman's differing relationships. What's The Difference? By John Piper
- Adam was created to lead, protect and serve; especially his wife and children. 2:23-24
- Eve was created to be the “helper” in the marriage relationship. 2:18-25
- The big temptation in male & female relationships is to disregard God’s plan. Genesis 2:15-25, 3:1ff
“I will let her lead because she is better at it”
“I will take charge because he will not”
- Adam was still called and gifted to lead his home after his sin.
- Accountability
- Oversight
- Influence
Because of our sin we have to watch the following:
- Over-emphasizing authority without an underlying relationship
- Exhibiting a critical spirit with our tone and words
- Falling into passivity and neglect
- Refusing to provide clear expectations and guidelines
- Failing to develop meaningful relationships
“Leadership should be satisfying, not terrifying, energizing not draining and freeing not stifling.” Robert Lewis
- Being a Spirit-filled person is the best contribution we can give to any relationship.
Isaiah 3:1-12
1 Corinthians 15:45-49
Galatians 5:13-26
Two Truths:
- When men are not mature men, women are pressed to be what they are not meant to be and struggles multiply.
- There is no substitute to Christ-likeness in a relationship.
